When do you purchase your first car seat. Not infant seat.

Question

We recieved gift cards for our shower (way after baby made her arrival due to covid) and I have a 15% off coupon. Should I use them to get a carseat now(since it's a big chunk of money) .. or should I get some other things we are going to need( things that cost less). 
I just dont know when I need to purchase a car seat

I switched both my kids around 8-9 months. That’s when they start getting to heavy to carry in the carrier seat. Some of my friends have kept them in the carriers after their first birthday. That seems bazaar to me but to each their own 🤷🏼‍♀️

I got a car seat at his 1st birthday, and even at that we where able to wait a few months.

Probably 8-9 months or so was when we switched from the infant carrier seat to a regular car seat. We did not purchase this before hand. We got a Grace 4-ever car seat and I love it!

When they get closer to a year old is when most people switch. I switched my first at 9 months.

You have to do it, when baby grows out of infant seat. Some babies go 1,5 years on it, some need a larger one before 1 year. You never know...

I switched my son at 9 months because I wasn’t carrying him in the infant car seat anymore. My husband used the infant car seat for the few times he needed to pick him up until he outgrew it.

I switched my son to a 3-in-1 car seat around 8/9 months. His legs became way to long and his seat was definitely to small for him. He loves his 3-in-1 seat now - no more crying to put him in his seat😂

The convertible seat? I switched both my kids at 2/3 months old lol. Now 3 y/o and 9 months old.. I got a 3 in 1 because I do not like the bulky seats with the backless booster.. I’ll just get them one for like $20 OR skip it and have them max out the weight in the seat they have.
