Do babies need to brush teeth w toothpaste

Idk if this is going to sound dumb but I’m a FTM  but i really don’t know and I’m getting different answers my 8 month old now has grown out two teeth and I brush them sometimes using the frida finger baby brush but should I be using toothpaste at this point ?

Just used water until about a year, then started fluoride free training toothpaste ☺️

Hi I am a qualified dental nurse and would advise that you should definitely start using a toothpaste WITH fluoride in it !! Without the fluoride in the toothpaste you could be leaving little one susceptible to holes/ caries. You want the amount of fluoride to be 1000ppm. When you brush make sure it’s at least 30 mins after they have eaten or drank anything other than water and avoid wetting the toothbrush before brushing as water can dilute the benefits of the fluoride. My dentist said as soon as there’s a tooth or your baby meets the age requirement on the toothpaste (whichever comes first) to use fluoride toothpaste to avoid cavities, if the baby isn’t old enough to use fluoride free.

My son used the soft finger brush until he started biting us(OUCH) so we upgraded to the first steps tooth brush with baby toothpaste non fluoride
