Covid and pregnancy

Hey so I’m a daycare teacher and was recently alerted by a parent that an email was sent out about an employee testing positive for Covid. The daycare said they’ll get the building professionally cleaned but none of the teachers were made known if they were in contact with said staff member. Im 16 weeks pregnant and don’t feel comfortable going back until I know for sure I don’t have it and that everyone in contact is quarantining for 2 weeks...what should I do ?

Contact your supervisor/boss and find out what’s going on. It seems odd they would contact the parents but not all the employees.

They will only tell you if you had contact or not... and the people who had contact usually are send home for 14 days but to be honest, you know your employer if you feel they are honest about this then don’t worry.

They won’t tell you the name of the employee cause is a violation of their privacy and is like if they are sharing medical information which against the law to share medical information of an employee it’s has something to do with HIPPA or something like that

Not telling the name of the person seems to be common practice of employers I think it’s because they don’t want the person being harassed. If you can get tested yourself. Also wear a mask if you aren’t already.

Get yourself tested? I have to get it done every month for work, and even though it’s a shitty 10 seconds, I always feel relieved after. I wouldn’t feel comfortable going in if everyone wasn’t tested though 😅

If everyone you work with takes it and everyone who tests negative returns to work, then with cleaning of the facility you should be okay to return to work! But if people are returning without being tested then maybe talking to someone higher up about your concerns, and not returning until you know it’s safe is best option. If my employer wasn’t taking these precautions I’d be staying home myself, always do what works best for you! 🤗

I’d talk to the director and ask how the situation is being handled. Ask “were any staff who were in contact with this member alerted to the situation?” “Are all of those staff members being tested, and out until a negative test or 14 days whichever comes first?” If this isn’t the case I’d let the director know you don’t feel comfortable in this work environment and you need alternative duties if possible. If that’s not possible you may unfortunately have to go on unpaid leave until you feel comfortable going back. Without a policy in place for “at risk” people to work outside of the facility then there’s not much you can do besides unpaid leave if that’s available.

Then I would ask to take a leave of absence until they come back negative the whole point of talking a test is to self quarantine until you get a result so you’re not spreading it asymptoticly. It’s up to you though to figure out how to proceed with the situation.

They said everyone is still able to work until tests results come back.
