He won’t listen!

So my boyfriend and I have talked about getting married and getting engaged soon. We have wanted to get married on the same day since we started talking about it over a year ago because the date holds a lot of significance to us. He started off this year saying that he would propose by the end of December but recently he has changed to early next year because of the ring. He says he needs more time to save up for the ring but he won’t listen when I say that he doesn’t have to spend a whole lot. We are young and in school and I know I would feel terrible knowing he spent so much on something for me. I know I should be grateful that he wants to spend so much but I would rather him save the money for something like our home or our wedding and not spend so much on a ring. Any ideas as to how to help either of us would be great. I just don’t want him spending so much on something for me when we could use the money else where
