Baby led weaning question

I have 13 month old twins and wondering when I can introduce lettuce? I have heard you’re not supposed to because it can get caught. So when are you supposed to?

Also, at what age do kids use utensils to eat?

Since they were under 1, I’d give them a spoon and they would bring it to their mouth. Now at 13months they even try to scoop food on to their utensils(not usually successful though) and try to bring it to their mouth sometimes with food and sometimes without. I try to encourage the spoon/fork for messier foods and they use it for a second then use their hands.

My mom tells me I need to start feeding more foods that require utensils and practice more.

It’s so hard with two especially when they don’t fully understand what I’m saying and Dad isn’t always home!

Am I expecting too much too soon? Or just keep trying?
