C section fear

My doctor told me that because I had a difficult delivery with my last baby, that he didn't feel comfortable doing this delivery vaginal. He wants to schedule a c section. I'm really scared of doing this because I have heard so many scary stories about how the spinal can numb you from the neck down and I'm very claustrophobic. Also, I'm nervous about recovery. Can someone give me details on what to expect exactly?
