What are the main fears you have with your birthing?

Not trying to judge anyone's birth choice, but "DIY homebirth," aka, without any trained professional, like a midwife present?? That is incredibly foolish and dangerous. Home births are a perfectly acceptable choice, but you at least need a midwife there in case of an emergency.

I chose birthing center but then had to switch insurance and now have to have a hospital birth. My biggest fear is being forced into unnecessary medical intervention. If it's necessary that's one thing but I know it happens pretty often that doctors talk you into things you don't want so they can go home.

I feel like this is stupid but my biggest fear right now is getting an epidural. The thought of a needle in my spine really freaks me out. Like more than pushing a baby out. ...I might change my mind about how I feel when I'm in pain though lol. ... Other than that I'm worried about being rushed through the process or having rude nurses and doctors. However, my wish for a healthy baby outweighs these fears and I plan on bringing a treat basket for the nurses so maybe they'll like me better.

We are going with a birthing center and midwife. I am seeing an OB now, and I love her, but she's totally not on board with the "no medical intervention unless emergency" thing. She says she is, but then makes comments eluding to starting pitocin. I'm only 17 weeks, and if I remain low risk, I'm definitely going to birthing center route. I'm an rn in a very busy and intense ICU and we see the worst from labor so I am not ignorant, so I still want to be close to hospital if needed. My birthing center is about 2 miles away.
