Ended up with a September baby!
After being told so many times that I would deliver after my due date (2nd Oct), our little lady sped into the world on the 28th Sept!
I was literally shopping in a homeware store for a dish-drying rack when contractions started coming on, but I was completely in denial. I called my husband and told him I was feeling some things, but since I was still able to compare prices on dishracks I couldn't possibly be in early labour 😂
Contractions started at 11am in the store. In the 10 mins where I walked home, and called my friend and said I didn't feel up to meeting for coffee, they had gone from 0-100, painwise. The noises I was making are unlike any I've ever made before - I actually heard our neighbour leave her house at one point 😂
I called my husband and barely got the words out that he needed to come home from work. Its all a bit of a blur after that, but all I know is that by 2:30PM we were at the hospital (after a very tense Uber ride!).
I was put on a stretcher and they checked my cervix - everyone freaked out when they realised I was fully dilated and the baby was coming. My doula arrived at that point, bless her! We pushed twice, and suddenly the nurse is holding my knees together and wheeling me to a delivery room. All I can remember is the chair had handles to pull on!
I pushed 3 more times - the first, she crowned, the second, her head was out, and the third, she was here! We didn't opt to find out the sex beforehand, and when my husband leaned down and whispered "we have a baby girl!" It was just the most amazing moment.
I ended up with a first degree tear, about a cm long and quite shallow, so not many stitches. Little Jemima Joy was born at 2:47PM weighing 2.9kg (6lb, 4 oz)!
It was so fast, which everyone says is great, but the contractions were horrific because of it. I don't know what I would've preferred, a longer labour and more progressive contractions, or the speedy entrance JJ made!
Anyway, I'm sorry it's so long, I love reading other ladles' detailed birth stories so I hope that you will like this!
