We wanted his name to have something from both of us. His dad is a junior but didn’t want to make him “the third” so we decided to just go for the same initials, “R. A. W.”

We thought he was a girl but the day we found out he was a boy we decided on the initial thing. I sent “R” names to him and my boyfriend immediately said RIVER! (thank God because that was the one I secretly loved out of all of them). I love how it’s ambiguous yet whimsical. Plus River Phoenix was a bad ass! (RIP)

The “W” was easy since we just used my father’s name (even though my dad already has 2 nephews named after him) but we were stumped on the “A”. I didn’t like any of the names we looked at or thought of and neither did my boyfriend. So I suggested my name, “Jada”, backwards

and he loved it. So his middle name became Ah-dah-j (ending pronounced the same as the name “Taj” in Taj Mahal)

My friends and his godparents just call him Adaj and my immediate family calls him River. He’s our first and we’re so happy that he’s finally here.
