First Baby Name Argument
Okay, it finally came up and turned into a little heated spat, which quickly died down as we joked about all of the ridiculous things we could name our baby.
My Hubby started telling me names he would prefer depending on the gender of our baby. Things like, for a girl the middle name has to be Ann because his grandmother, mother, his sister, his niece, and TOTALLY coincidental, mine is also Anne. It’s a “family name” and his mother will be thrilled.
That put my hair up immediately. His mother is not a terrible person, but she is very self centered and has had no positive impact on our marriage. We had a decent relationship until she blew it up. I don’t speak to her except for the polite “happy birthday” chime on the phone calls. Ugh. I was adamant that it was a big fat No. A mother can pass her middle name down through her daughter. At some point all the girls having the same middle name is more comical than it is sentimental.
Then he starts talking about boy names. He wants Thomas in there somewhere because it’s his Dad’s middle name, and before that his great uncle’s?? I’m like No! Our baby is our baby. We don’t have to honor our other people! Not to mention, I have two parents too. Why would we name our child after one of his when his family has contributed nothing positive to our relationship. But my parents (even according to my husband) are the most generous, fun, giving and caring people?!
The whole point is, I don’t want to name our baby after anyone. I want a neutral zone. Just our own unique name that we only chose because we love it. This might be our only child, I don’t want to name it after one parents. And if I happen to have 4, I don’t want all 4 of them named after our parents 😂😂😂
Anyone else had this battle and somehow come out without offending your spouse?
