Exposed to high levels of radon! Am I safe??

Question

Hi mamas! I was just notified today that my job has high levels of radon. The max “safe” levels are 4.0 and my job has 7.4. My boss is saying it’s completely safe but from the research I’ve done makes me nervous because I’m pregnant and high exposures during pregnancy can cause birth defects and even lung cancer to the baby. Does anyone have any advice or knowledge of something like this?

Speak with your doctor and contact the labour board.  Don’t take your boss’ word for it.

Making the assumption you are in the US... since it’s above the EPA action level I would think a place of business would be legally required to remediate if people are spending entire work days in that area. 
However, you can naturally lower the number with better ventilation (better HVAC, opening windows, etc.). 
If you aren’t actively working in the area with high radon just don’t spend excessive stone there.
Radiation protection has 3 principles(time, distance and shielding) and you can absolutely apply 2 of the 3 easily. You can reduce your time and increase your distance from the area as much as you can. 
Excessive exposure to radon isn’t good for anyone pregnant or not.
