Apartments

I’m new to all this and me and my bf want to get our own apartment in a couple of months after I finish with school so we have time to save up but we have a cat and there’s a $500 deposit, and there’s a $52 application fee I don’t mind paying the $52 fee right away as it’s not a lot just in case we don’t get accepted into the place but do you have to pay $500 for the animal right away also even if you don’t get the place?
