Latching Help

My LO is officially 8 weeks now and has no tongue tie or lip tie. I had challenges with getting a deep latch so I started working with a lactation consultant. On the second visit, the LC gave me a nipple shield and instructed me to use it. I have had 6 visits with the LC to date and she has recommended staying with the shield until my LO is 3 or 4 months old.

I hate this shield and I feel like it isn’t helping with weight gain and the nursing sessions are LONG (50+ minutes). It feels like my LO is burning all the calories she is consuming. I am supplementing about 7/8 ounces of pumped milk in addition to long nursing sessions as instructed by LC.

Question: LO doesn’t have a problem latching without the breast. She stays on just fine, but the issue is the latch itself isn’t deep. I have tried everything and am so close to just giving up. Any help from other fellow moms that used the shield would greatly be appreciated.
