Baby won’t smile at me.

My son will be 8 weeks on Thursday, he’s been smiling in his sleep since the day he was born but will NOT smile at me or anyone else. Occasionally I’ll get a half smile with his mouth wide open but that’s about it. He kind of just stares at me. He also hasn’t started cooing or really making any noises yet other than grunts. Is this normal? Is there something wrong? This is my first baby and I really have no clue what to expect.
