Is a social media influencer a good career for kids to aspire to?

Would you be ok if that was your own child’s career goal? 
Do you think it has any long term sustainability?  Should it be considered a legitimate job choice?

Anything someone loves to do is a legitimate job choice. The key is to be happy in your choice, not having a career that you don’t like just because it’s respected by others. Some of those kids make millions alone, have financial freedom, and are taking care of their families off of YouTube alone.

I wouldn't allow my minor child to become an influencer, the industry is toxic and has been proven to be unhealthy for children and teens growing up.
Ive turned down opportunities for this reason, and I see first hand with close friends in the industry how it really effects them behind the scenes. I've even lost friendships (as a grown ass woman) because of how they behave on vs off camera, or having the need to whip a phone out at any given moment. It's damaging.

Let’s be realistic here.
Viral fame is unattainable for most people. Just like acting, singing rapping etc. the entertainment industry is one of the hardest industries to be apart of and maintain your popularity. The toxicity of the industry is absolutely astonishing, I would NEVER. Subject my child to such bs
I would much rather them do it as a “paid hobby” rather than a career.
What happens when ur fame dies down? What’s ur back up then?

In the minority here, but I don’t see why not. It makes good money sometimes & as long as they aren’t being harmed or causing harm in any way.

Honestly, no. Most people I know who are social media influencers had a career already (be it modeling or acting, or some specific niche influencers, for example studygrams, medvlogs, photograph etc) and they happened to grow into it and now made their account professional. 
It's a side gig, and should be seen as so. People can make their social media account be of any subject that's related to their main career, and that's totally fine. If they succeed, they make money. If they dont, it's a hobby as any other. 
I am firmly against influencers who have nothing to show for it. There are some accounts that only post photoshopped pictures of themselves that dont even look like themselves, advertise crap "weight loss" (laxatives) pills and meal replacement shakes and that's all pure garbage and contributes to the toxic side of social media.

Honestly, no. Not unless they were the type that were influencing for good. No offence to influencers but I feel that my kids could aspire to do more with their lives. I understand that once you reach a certain level of followers you actually have to start promoting your own products and that means getting into a new kind of business and it can get quite complicated from there, but still no.

I wanted to be a rockstar when I was a kid and I didn’t even play an instrument 🤷🏻‍♀️
My sister wanted to be a bus driver or a cleaning lady. My other sister wanted to be a princess. My parents smiled and nodded. We all have successful careers now. I guess it depends how old the kid is?
