Toy "specific gender" discussion

Jazmine

Recently while having a conversation we somehow got on the topics of kids and playing and what our kids were into. This person said "I'll be damned if I let my son play with dolls". I was silent... I didn't agree with this but I didn't want to be judgemental. I said "oh, I let Rosalie play with whatever, even things that are advertised or targeted for boys traditionally, it doesn't bother me" she said "that's different, boys shouldn't play with girl toys". 😳 I know everyone has the right to their own opinions and parenting styles but I felt really bad. I almost tied this into the mentality I see a lot of men having that "taking care of the baby/kids" is a woman's job... Idk. I let both of my girls play with whatever, superheroes, trucks, cars etc. If I had a son I would absolutely let him play with dolls if he wanted to! Thoughts?
