“Contributing factor to local hospital overloads has been a huge intake of patients from across the border”
If some of you don’t know by now, the city where I currently live, El Paso , Texas is now #2 in the nation for most Covid cases. We are now having to convert convention centers into health facilities to assist with the over-capacitated local hospitals. Our county judge recently implemented a new stay-at-home order w/a 10 pm- 5 am curfew. There’s also talk of having another city wide shut down. Which I can kinda agree with because our numbers are very high BUT recently, an EPFD firefighter came forward & reported that a large contributing factor to local hospital overloads has been a huge intake of patients from across the border. If needed, El Paso residents might have to be airlifted to other cities for Covid treatment. We now face a major ethical conundrum, is it right to help sick non-citizens/residents & take up hospital bed space that could’ve been used by el Pasoans in the midsts of a major pandemic?
