37 week c section ?

So my baby boy is not due till the 28th. However due to complications I will be having him for sure Dec 7th at 37 weeks (unless he needs to come sooner) the doctor told me due to the fact that it’s a boy I have a 50/50 chance he may need some NICU time. Just wondering if any other moms have been threw this and delivered at 37 weeks and how it went ?

I’m due 12/28 and will be having him via c section at 36 weeks. We may try to push it out another week, but unlikely.

In thinking about it, I only know boys who have come early enough to be in the NICU, so I have no anecdotal information on boys vs girls in the NICU. They all came before 37 weeks though. Everyone is happy and for the most part healthy, so hopefully everything will turn out fine for you! I’m thinking that 37 weeks being early term will work out in your favor!

My son came at exactly 37 weeks! He was 6lbs on the dot but was totally healthy!

I had my son at 37w and some days and he was perfectly fine. Didn’t need any help.

I work postpartum and it is said/known that early boys normally do worse than the girls. But honestly I’m not sure why 🤔. But not at 37 weeks, I’m talking 35/36 weekers. I don’t see a reason why  he’d need nicu time unless something else is going on with him other than just being early

My cousin delivered baby boy at 37 weeks and a friend at 36 with a boy. No nicu time for either. I’ve heard boy lungs may not be fully developed before 37 weeks (slower than girls) so may need extra time, but the two I know did fine!

Also curious on why being a boy would influence NICU time. 
My sister just had a baby boy not too long ago at 37 weeks due to ICP. They gave her steroid shots for his lungs at 36 weeks I think and he was perfectly healthy, just kind of smaller (6lbs and some change). He’s now 2 months old and is still on the small side but no major health issues. His mom and dad are both short and skinny folk so it could easily just be his genetics why he’s small and not anything to do with him being born 3 weeks early.

Interesting I wonder what the info behind him being a boy and needing nicu time is? 
My boy is smaller right now but I’m being watched for gestational hypertension which they’re pretty sure will be preeclampsia (random urine in protein, high BP readings, headaches and swelling). My doctor said to be prepared to have him by 37 weeks at the latest she’s trying to push to 36/37 so I can deliver in town but if anything starts acting up she’s sending me out of town as we don’t have a nursery (NICU) so they can’t accommodate him here. So I’m 35 tomorrow just have to make it one more week to be safe here in town and then if he needs to come he can!
