Could I bring my newborn to small family gathering?

I’m set to give birth in the beginning of December. I was wondering, since my baby will be about 2-3 weeks old around the time Christmas will be, is it okay for me to bring her to a SMALL family gathering? It would be 6 people max and at a family members house. I’m a first time mom so I don’t know the “rules”. Thanks!

Is anyone traveling? How socially distant are people? Can you be sure everyone is up to date on vaccinations? Personally (and it is a personal choice) I don’t think I would risk it given covid, flu season, and it being before baby has a chance to get their first round of shots. People always want to touch/hold babies, and many common illnesses are worse for newborns.

It’s completely up to you. I’m personally not until after he receive his first vaccinations but that’s just what I feel most comfortable with in these crazy times. Not even just with COVID but whooping cough is a big problem for new babies. However, nobody can tell you where or where you cannot take your baby. I’d just advise to be careful and make sure people are wearing mask, and no kissing!!

For me i wouldn’t do it. 6 people doesn’t sound like a lot but it’s hard to know what everyone has been around. My daughter is 16 months and we still haven’t had her around more than my mil and fil her godmother and aunt with covid going on.

Could you? Sure. Would anyone recommend you do that? I sure hope not. Before the pandemic the doctor told my SIL not to bring her baby anywhere with a lot of people. If someone wanted to come visit they could, but not to take them to gatherings. She in fact told her she was so serious that if anyone had a problem with that, then they could call her.
They are so fragile early on with their immune system. Even if it's not covid, there are so many viruses that go around during the winter.

I wouldn’t let anyone touch him or hold him if you go and if you don’t think family will respect that then I wouldn’t go at all.

Its up to you, i would first determine if anybody has done any travelling, especially if they have been overseas, or if they have travelled within any known covid hotspots. Also inquire if they have quarantined if travel has occurred. Otherwise i myself would avoid going

I personally have been struggling with this decision as well. However, I am not one that will force others to get vaccinations just to hold my child. I am not due until after Christmas but I think that we will hibernate for a week and then slowly allow close family members to come visit. My sister had her son in the middle of COVID and she just made sure that everyone washed their hands. We have kept our circle pretty tight but none of us have had any scares with COVID.

COVID aside. I had my daughter December 2018 and brought her to our larger family dinner. Myself, my husband and my mom were the only ones to hold her and we didn’t let anyone get too close to her/touch her as she hadn’t had her shots yet.

I don’t think there are any “rules”...it’s what you’re comfortable with. You’re mommy so whatever you decide is best for baby then that’s what you should go with 🙂
If you’ve been around them this whole time then I would probably just go but not let anyone hold baby...you honestly might not even feel like going anywhere/doing anything at that point.
