Considering a home birth?

Anyone else considering a home birth because of Covid? A little extra info on our situation, we are Americans living in Turkey and my hospital will only allow my husband with me during labor. Last time I had my two doulas with me as well who helped with the birth and translation when I was too focused on laboring to speak Turkish well with the nurses 😅. Also would LOVE to not have to spend the night away from my 2 year old in the hospital. 
Never would have considered it before but I’m leaning that way now. Anyone else in the same boat? Or am I going a little crazy?

I slightly considered it, but I had a pretty traumatic birth experience that I’m almost sure would’ve ended in my first sons death if I had delivered at home.

How far away is your hospital and would you be able to handle the chance that your baby wasn’t breathing on the way to the hospital? I think home births are great but unfortunately I live an hour and a half away from a hospital. Also a good friend of mine had her baby at birth center probably 10-15 min away from a hospital and the baby wasn’t breathing at birth and don’t have oxygen until getting to the hospital and he very likely has cerebral palsy now. So you just need to be aware of the risks. 95% chance everything would be fine if you have a non high risk pregnancy but it doesn’t rule out complications.

I thought about it but I’m high risk for uterine rupture so it is 100%not the safest for me at all. I’m in NJ and at first they said no doulas but now they’re part of the birthing team, so they don’t count as an extra person. I’m too scared of covid for any extra people though

Honestly, I considered it because of covid as well. I am due at the end of January. Where I work at the hospital is where I’ll be giving birth and because I know how clean and sanitary they keep it over there it actually makes me feel better. Plus, the birthing center is on the other side of the ICU where all the covid patients have to stay so they are quarantined. Doctors and nurses protect themselves very well. I don’t know how or what it is like out in Turkey but I’m sure at the hospital they follow covid restrictions (I would hope). My man and I are going to wear our masks when we arrive then take them off after we get into our room.

I don’t think you’re crazy at all! I’m also having a home birth! 🙋🏻‍♀️ This is my third baby. My first two were in the hospital. I had my mom and husband with me (OB delivered the first, midwife second). Both births were beautiful in their own ways. I’m low risk, and even without Covid I would be planning a home birth this time. I’ve done my research and have a team of midwives who I trust (they know if and when a transfer is necessary) as well as a birth doula. We’re also renting a birthing tub. Being home my husband and mom will be there again and so will my kids (4 and 6). My local hospital only allows one person during birth, as well as other restrictions that I don’t feel are necessary for a low risk birth. I’m really looking forward to it. If you’re low risk and it’s a feasible option for you and your family, I highly recommend looking into it. The key is educating yourself on your options and finding a birth team you trust - good luck 💚

I would love to, but due to me being high risk it is impossible. My first birth was traumatic, if I would have been at home my son probably wouldn’t be alive. My second birth was amazing. But I have GD and it is likely that baby has some problems with the blood sugar levels and needs close monitoring after birth.
