If mom & dad are divorced but share 50/50 custody of the kid’s should dad have to pay child support?

Scenario: Let’s say moms a surgical tech, dads a plumber. Both can support the kids without the help of the other. Do you believe mom would be in the wrong to put dad on child support if they share 50/50 custody.

No, the only thing they'd need to figure out is who pays for things like school fees, medical aid, etc but no, child support/ maintenance falls away with 50/50 custody.

My parents divorced when I was about 12, my brother was 14, very amicable and great co-parents 50/50 custody even down to our grandparents who lived 2streets apart, mom would drive us 2hrs away on Friday stay with her parents then Saturday afternoon we’d go over a street to dads parents stay the night and come back with dad on Sunday - every 5 weeks. Extremely 50/50 my mom had better insurance and covered the premium for healthcare, dental and vision. She paid all co-payments at time of visit dad only had to cover the items that weren’t routine glasses, fillings ect they would call it even for the cost over the years. I only heard one argument post divorce between them and it was when I needed braces at 15, dad felt it should be 50/50 mom didn’t agree. She pulled her records for every premium and co payment added it up and compared it to the cost of fillings glasses and my bro’s retainer dad was still 2gs behind her. All I’m saying is child support for 50/50 turkey depends on the ‘extra’ things outside of the daily care imo

The court does that using a calculation based on what each parent makes but if 50/50 custody the child support should be very low if at all.

If the dad has the child and cares for the child 50% of the time then I’d say no. Why would he if he’s putting in half the work?
