My husband and I bought a house in January. It turns out the previous owners had a bunch of animals and never cleaned up after them. We have carpet in the basement and it smells like dog pee constantly. I have steam cleaned several times, but every time the smell seems to get worse. This likely means that the pee has set into the carpet.

I'm working from home right now and because our modem is in the basement I am stuck with this pee smell all day. It just makes me so angry and disgusted. I cry all the time because of it and I am so embarrassed.

I cannot afford to get new flooring at this time and I really don't know what to do. It is causing a major major toll on my emotions.
