Doctor stripped membranes!!

I really wasn’t expecting it so I didn’t have time to protest. My due date isn’t for another two weeks but I’ve been so uncomfortable and cramping with constant Braxton Hicks. Come to find out at my first cervical check, I’m already about 3 cm dialated so my doctor did a membrane sweep to speed things along. I wasn’t prepared for that! I thought I’d have at least another week before they offered it to me or at least time to go into labor on my own but I definitely didn’t expect them to do it so early on. Is this pretty normal?
