Anyone's babe not eating?

My friend has a daughter a month younger then my son and she refuses to eat solids. The doctor told her to wean off milk and pouches but she's struggling hard. Just seeing if anyone has a similar experience or some advice. I feel bad because my son was begging for food at 8 months so I have no advice.

My son currently is eating the Gerber crunchies daily. Like an entire container but it’s whole grain and low sodium so I let him 😅 some days he doesn’t eat any thing although he’s obviously hungry. Tell her to just keep offering small amounts of new food and keep offering. I realized recently I that my son will eat more if I give him a normal spoon rather than his dinky “baby” spoon.

Our son is getting more picky but we’ll let him pick from options. Up until a year and a half or so he ate whatever we put in front of him. Now we’ll have things ready in the fridge and ask do you want watermelon? Blueberries? Pineapple? Apple? Or banana? I think he feels more in control, even though we are.

Is this a sudden thing? Is she only eating purées through pouches? 
It’s normal for toddlers to be very, very picky (i know from first hand experience) but if she is refusing to eat any sorts of solids at this age i would definitely refer to a specialist.
