Could I exclusively breast pump?

Question

New mom here. I'm 5 days PP. Baby is not latching I have short nipples ;( its a struggle.
I decided to pump and feed him in a bottle.
Is it true that it will dry up if I don't "breast" feed?
I would appreciate any tips and tricks!

I did this for 8 months... she has a lip tie and I couldn’t get it fixed at the time because of Covid. I’ll be honest, that was the hardest 8 months of my life. I was beyond exhausted. It’s completely different from breastfeeding. You have to pump every 3-4 hours or your milk supply will drop

If you’re interested in continuing to try breastfeeding, I’d recommend joint the Facebook group the cleavage club. They will have some recommendations for short nipples. Had the baby been assessed for oral ties? That could be the issue. 
But to answer your actual question, yeas. My best friend exclusively pumped for her children. It is harder, since you have to be super consistent and sometimes it’s harder to maintain supply, but if that’s what you want to do it is possible.

I want to pump for this baby. My other kids I didn’t do anything but formula. Since this is my last baby I figured maybe I should try it, I’ve heard how painful and a lot of work breastfeeding could be with inverted nipples and everything so I’ve never even thought about it. 
I want to pump but I’m not set on only breast milk so formula I will do also. I also don’t want to pump for a long time, maybe just my 8 weeks after csection but I may change my mind to go longer or not even try.

You will only dry up if you dont pump as much as you would be breastfeeding and if you dont keep up with it. Plenty of moms exclusively pump well past a year mark. I personally went 8 months before i dried up but that was because i didnt keep up with it towards the end. 
An LC will probably recommend a nipple shield to get them use to latching and to decrease the use from there, but its whatever youre comfortable with!

I suggest a lactation consultant. My nips are short and inverted, but when baby suck, they kind of even grow in lenght. No problem feeding. But I had to work for him to learn it. So a consultant can help you a lot.
Also you can do the pumping thing if you want, hold your baby, it makes you make more milk. I just personally would'nt like the extra work of pumping, so I worked on him learning to eat from my breast.

You can, I think there is a group here for that but it is more difficult than breastfeeding.
I have short nipples and managed to BF, you need to make sure baby is latching part of the breast and not just the nipple. Have you tried a nipple shield? It helped me with number 2 as she had a smaller mouth and the nipple kept slipping
