Was this a bad way to handle the situation?

I wore a tank top to school that apparently violated the dress code because one of my bra straps were showing just slightly. I was pulled out of class by the principal and he explained that he thought what I was wearing was "distracting to the boys." All I said was "you are more distracted by my bra as a middle aged man than any of the 16 year old boys in my class were. That says more about you than me. If you will excuse me, I have an education to return to" and I walked back into class. Did I handle this inappropriately?
