Was this a bad way to handle the situation?

I wore a tank top to school that apparently violated the dress code because one of my bra straps were showing just slightly. I was pulled out of class by the principal and he explained that he thought what I was wearing was "distracting to the boys." All I said was "you are more distracted by my bra as a middle aged man than any of the 16 year old boys in my class were. That says more about you than me. If you will excuse me, I have an education to return to" and I walked back into class. Did I handle this inappropriately?

You have a valid point but the dress code exists and walking out on the principal isn’t the way to bring about change. If you want to see a change to the dress code, then put together an articulate and well researched presentation for the school board. But don’t walk out on an administrator.

I honestly think your response is appropriate. 
I think it's a bit weird how they obligate gals in school to dress "modestly" for males. 
Like sure, it might have broken the dress code, but the misogyny isn't needed. Maybe they need a clearer dress code or at least to handle it better than that.

I think it's sorta sexist we should half to dress a certain way to avoid showing a nother pice of "mandatory" clothing while guys can wear just about anything
