relationship and religion

so i am religious but my bf is not i said something today about God and he said there is no God. i’m upset by this we have had talks about my religion and as long as we respect each other’s beliefs we’d be okay but he just shut down what i said with that. i never force my beliefs on anyone but shouldnt i be able to say something about God to my bf? do i have a right to be mad? idk i dont want to fight i just don’t know what to even say to him at this point. i just need some advice on how to go about this
