So for Valentine's day i brought my boyfriend sneakers that were $338.00 they were so expensive because the stores don't sell them anymore and he wears a big size i told my mom and she asked is he buying you a gift thats worth 300 for Valentine's day and i responded idk what he's getting me idk if he even has 300 dollars in his account (last time he was at my house i had to pay for his cab because he didn't get paid yet also last year he brought me a necklace from amazon which i love and wear it everyday) so my mom said he works he should be able to buy you an expensive gift don't be a fool and spend all your money on him so my question is am i fool for spending that much on him because honestly i don't mind but ig my mom got in my head
Edit: im not expecting him to give me something expensive i honestly don't mind buying him something expensive because i love him he could get me a card and take me to dinner and I'll be happy it just my mom told me that i shouldn't spend so much on someone who wouldn't spend that much on me so im overthinking it a bit

That depends do you have $300 to spare? Or is that outside your budget?  It’s not how much you spend really on the gift. Is he equally thoughtful to you?

People both need to stop making such a huge fuss over Valentines Day if they're going to get upset about things and also need to stop giving with the intention of getting something to the same value. That's not the point of giving at all.

Do not let your mon put entitled ideas into your head. No one is obligated to buy you anything, and especially aren’t obligated to buy you expensive things. Just bc you work doesn’t mean you have extra money to spend on gifts like that

Giving a gift should come from the heart & be genuine. You can tone down on the price, but ￼realistically he’s an adult with bills so expecting him to dead on match your gift will be hard on his end. If you’re expecting something expensive let him know or date someone financially on your level.

It’s just Valentine’s Day why do people feel the need to buy such expensive gifts. 
Can I ask would you spend that much on his bday and on Christmas.I personally think it’s a ridiculous amount of money especially runners
I’m sure it’s more about buying him runners cos he’d like them but I think it’s far to much and if you already know he can’t afford it in return, he is going to feel bad and you may end up disappointed.
I’m not saying your mother is right but I would keep it small.

Personally I would need more back story to answer this question correctly. It is an issue if you’re always going over the top and giving him nice things and him not giving or doing much at all. But spoiling your SO here and there is no issue at all. As long as he’s returning the favor in other forms such as support, love, ect. (5 love languages). Ultimately you know what’s best for your relationship. 💗

I only buy my husband an expensive gift like a computer and shoes. But from him I always tell him to air on the side of caution and give me money or a baby 😂.
I’d rather spend money on things I like because I don’t see him going into bath and body works and getting candles, wall flowers and body wash or soap in scents that I like. He knows me but rarely can have my tastes since they always change. So money and flowers and candy works for me. He can take me to dinner and that’s really it. But I go all out for him mostly because it’s what I like.

You are not a fool for buying him a nice gift for Valentine’s Day but eh, that price tag? I mean, it is a bit too much. Just get him something simple and inexpensive. But it’s up to you. For me, I wouldn’t if we are not together too long yet.
