Eye exam

Has anyone brought their October ‘19 baby to see an optometrist? The last few days we’ve noticed our daughter occasionally cover her right eye, usually at mealtime. I looked up when children usually have their first optometrist appointment and everything I’m reading says 6 months! Her pediatrician has never mentioned this and it was not on our radar at all. I’m going to call her pediatrician on Monday, but I’m wondering if anyone else has dealt with possible vision issues and can tell me what to expect at a optometrist appointment with a child this young.
