Opinions on getting another dog
We have a 9 year old cocker spaniel who is such a good dog. He’s slowed down a good bit but he still enjoys a good game of fetch and a walk around the neighborhood. We have a 4 year old and are not having any more children. He tolerates her. Lets her pet him and put dolls around him but he doesn’t seek her out to be played with if that makes sense. I know he’s been bored this year (like everyone) but sometimes I think he’s unhappy. Just a feeling. We were thinking about getting another dog. We’d like another, we have a pretty large house and backyard so room isn’t a problem. Our dog doesn’t ever show much attention to dogs, he will bark at them from inside the house but when my sisters dog stays with us he basically just ignores her no matter how much she wants to play with him.
I’ve read that sometimes dogs will not bond with other dogs they know belong to other people but once they realize the new dog is here to stay they become very close. What do you all think? Have you introduced a new dog to your older dog and did it work out? Do you think it’s cruel to get a younger dog when your current dog is older? I just want him to have a friend, but I don’t know if he wants one lol.
Also we would be adopting and not shopping.
