Infant car seat, or convertible car seat?

Which is better infant or convertible car seat and why?

Answer

It depends on a lot of factors. 
If you babywear, don’t go out much (especially these days with COVID), have a vehicle with decent backseat room (front to back), and don’t worry about your baby getting too cold in the walk from the house to the car/loading in the car then a convertible is probably a good bet if you’re interested in that route. 
If you don’t plan to baby wear, if you do a lot of driving and going out, if you have a car with a smaller backseat, or you live in a place that’s cold and you’d like to be able to bundle baby up in the house before going out to the car then you’ll probably prefer an infant seat. 
Neither is really better it’s just about what works better for you. 
So be aware that not all convertibles are good choices for newborns (even if they say they fit kids down to 4 or 5 pounds) so do your research before you decide.

Second baby. Going convertible this time. I used to carry The whole infant one around but that ish got heavy fast and it dont last long. Now I’m just gonna take him out and put him in a chest carrier.

Infant for us. I don’t have time to take him out of the convertible one and carry him around with my 5 year old. I’ll take the whole infant car seat.

I’m leaning towards convertible seat for second baby since I used a baby carrier a lot with my daughter the first year. Since learning more about carseat safety, my baby won’t be sleeping in the seat for long periods of time or when taken to a store. I find wearing more convenient and babies fall right back to sleep after taking them out anyway.

I’m going convertible since we don’t own a car (we live in the city and rely on the subway). We’d only get a handful of uses out of an infant seat so it really doesn’t seem worth the cost.

When baby is a newborn it is way easier having an infant car seat to carry them into dr appts or the store or wherever. But at 6ish months we got her a convertible one and then it was better for that age.

I prefer convertible for money reasons. Infant seats only last 6ish months here, so it’s costly to buy an infant seat then a convertible not too long after.
