When will the excitement come?

Hi ladies,
I’m 38 and pregnant with my first. 7 weeks tomorrow. I’ve waited a long while for this but now that it’s happened, I just don’t believe it, not excited omg I don’t believe it, like I actually just don’t believe it!! 
I thought I’d cry and shake and be overwhelmed but I’m just like, meh!!
Am I weird? 
When should I get excited? X

You are not weird...I hated pregnancy and just wanted a fast forward button. 
I felt really weird at ultrasound appointments and I felt like they expected me to cry or squeal and im just not that girl, lol. I would be excited and talk about it once I left but I never cried of happiness my entire pregnancy until my son was placed in my arms the first time.

I 100% get this mama! Its totally okay. I am 21 weeks with my first baby and still don't really feel excited. Its very normal and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Lots of women don't experience attachment until baby is born. Just hang in there, once you see that beautiful babies face everything will change ❤

With my first it didn’t kick in until after my baby was born. I knew I was pregnant and excited but felt kind of like your explaining. Even right after birth and when we went home, I guess I was shocked and couldn’t believe it was happening. I can remember having him and being in complete amazement that I get to spend the rest of my life with him. I remember having the most visitors in the hospital and the next few days after we went home and I just wanted people to leave him alone because I wanted him all to myself. I think it should be more normalized to not feel a bond or attachment for pregnant moms and right after birth. It’s doesn’t happen like that for some new moms.

It was hard in the beginning for me because you don't feel pregnant or look pregnant. It was so abstract that I had a life inside of me. After I saw my baby for the first time on a 3D ultrasound at 14 weeks is really when I was like..oh my gosh this is real and there he is! He is alive and breathing and has all his body parts. After that came the belly and the kicks..now I am super excited and just cannot wait to meet him. I am 28 weeks tomorrow.

I didn’t get full blown “omg I’m gonna be a mom” excited until the doctor said “okay one more big push.” I was thrilled to be pregnant, but I had so many complications in the beginning it was hard to believe I would actually successfully carry the pregnancy. Once I over came that fear, i was just so uncomfortable it was hard to be happy. You’re definitely not the only person to feel how your feeling. My pregnancy was planned, but it’s still super hard to fully anticipate all the ways your life changes and it can be super overwhelming at first. Literally nothing will ever be the same. I remember people asking “are you excited?” And I could never whole heartedly and enthusiastically say yes. My whole pregnancy i felt more anxious, nervous and on edge than excited. Like I said, I got excited when I was in labor. Most of the excitement was probably from the fact I wasn’t going to be pregnant anymore. Its a wild ride. And it’s okay that your not excited. It’s okay if you’re never excited. Congrats mama!

I’m 37 with my first & 14w. I’ve been physically miserable the entire time. I really didn’t even entertain much until we had test results back showing there weren’t any major defects. I was prepared for the worst and wanted to be clear-headed enough to make the best decisions for myself & my husband. It was relieving to see my baby moving on my 10w scan & relieving to get test results back. I was proper bummed out when we heard gender which was not what I wanted. I’m coming to accept I’m pregnant. Of course I’ve been doing what I can to be healthy & support baby’s growth, but otherwise I am definitely not “excited.” 
I am stressed about finances & overwhelmed by all the changes we’re facing as a couple. 
I wonder if maybe once I feel babe move, or see my belly... I keep hoping I feel better in Tri2 & that will help... Honestly, it may take until I hold her? I don’t know. 
Point is, I think it happens at different times for everyone & a lot depends on how you feel physically. I also think whatever you feel is normal... We’re kinda told that we are supposed to be in love with baby and in love with being pregnant... and that’s what people want to hear... but so many people I know are NOW responding to my discomfort by me how much they hated pregnancy, but they never shared that before. It’s just another way women are mislead bc we are always supposed to be enjoying these things. 🙄

I think it's very normal to feel the way you are feeling.
I just got a positive pregnancy test today (4 weeks and 3 days pregnant ) after TTC for over 2 years, although i am happy deep down, I can't access it and just feel in shock. I think there is something about being too scared to get excited because its early days plus there are no visible changes to my body yet so it's hard to comprehend it. I think excitement probably looks very different for everyone.

You’re not weird at all. I just turned 36 and am due in my with our first. We were told we wouldn’t be able to have kids so the pregnancy was a complete shock to my husband and I (together over 17 years)- I really struggled with it initially as I was kinda mourning my career and my husband just thought about all the fun stuff we wouldn’t be able to do anymore - it was much better for both of us after 12 weeks, we had time to accept the changes were going through and actually get excited about this new chapter. My hubby is so excited now, you’d never know he struggled in the beginning.
It just takes some time when you’re older, we get settled into our lives, status quo, and a baby is certainly life changing!

This is my 3rd and I still can’t believe it lol I think it gets more real once you have the baby or feel him/her move. I’m 36 weeks tomorrow and I just started buying baby clothes. To be fair I have all boys and my last one is 2 years old so I don’t have too much to get. Good luck mama
