He is asking why you feel that way, so maybe from his POV he thinks he is giving you different signals or messages then that... either you are being made to feel insecure by him or yourself, or he is deflecting because he is being called out.
Either way, I hate it when men call women ‘bro’ like that, but that is just me with an outside perspective looking in.
