Traits of someone who is an alcoholic ?

My boyfriend can handle so many drinks do to a high tolerance I’m assuming so he doesn’t slur his words and isn’t falling over like Iv seen in tv etc.. but he drinks so much almost everyday and starts early in the day. He can drink an entire bottle of wine, 6 packs a bottle of bourbon or whisky. 
Am I overreacting to think this isn’t ok ? Is this normal ? 
We have a baby and I don’t want her to grow up seeing him always drunk.

Sounds like he’s a functioning alcoholic.

An alcoholic is someone who cannot go without alcohol.  Tolerance has nothing to do with it. If he can’t go even a day without drinking he’s an alcoholic and if he’s drinking so much he’s drunk every time he drinks then that’s an issue.

So sorry you are in this situation. I was with an alcoholic for many years and it’s just so stressful. There are many quizzes online through reputable websites that ask questions about a person’s drinking that can help to determine if there is a drinking problem. But in my opinion if you have to ask if there’s a problem, there probably is. And it doesn’t really matter if he fits some definition of an alcoholic, if his behavior effects his health and your health (emotional and physical) you need to seek help. Is he defensive about how much he drinks? Can he stop for a day? My ex was always defensive and couldn’t stop until he got professional help. And I know he still struggles with alcoholism and addiction. It’s a long road and I’m keeping you and your family in my prayers.
