Playing outside alone?

I’m just curious how old your kids were when/if you let them play outside without you out there keeping an eye on them? I live in the country. Our only. Neighbors are family and people my husband has known his whole life. He’s lived here his whole life and we just put a house on some land by his parents house. My husband thinks it’s fine if our 5 year old plays outside by herself and I do not agree. I’m not worried about her roaming off or someone getting her but I worry about her getting hurt and me not being out there.

At 5? I played outside with my sisters without supervision all the time. Mom was right inside if we needed her. (We were limited to the yard or driveway. At my grandparents who who are more rural we were limited to the tree line)

My parents live in rural Montana and I still flipped out when I found out they were letting my five year old play in the yard without supervision. My dad would also leave her in the bath and just hang out in the living room, too, so they’re not really great examples.
I personally do nooootttttt think it’s okay at all.

I let my 5yo play by himself, but he 100% knows the boundaries and keeps his radio on him.
It all depends on your neighbors, landscape, and maturity.

My kids were about 10 and only if I could easily see/hear them and we have lovely neighbors on both sides.  Even with people around, things can happen so fast, or kids can do something stupid that they just haven’t thought through.  5 is way too young imo

With a fenced in yard and windows open so I can keep an eye on them and hear them if needed, then 5 is fine. We set up the outdoor toys so I can see our kids from the kitchen and it works out great. I have a 5 yr old and a 2 year old who play outside all the time without me hovering but im still keeping an eye on them.

8-10 I’d agree with. Depends a bit on the kid. That’s in a yard, fenced without a pool. Off the property like 10-11.

Five is young say between 8-10 depending on mature level. At least were ur living me around strangers would wait till older.
