How much sleep did you get a day with a newborn?

I'm pregnant with my first and everyone is telling me to enjoy my sleep while I can ect. The typical advice but I'm curious how much sleep parents actually get? I know it all depends on circumstances and varies from person to person. So how much sleep did y'all get with a newborn?

It's not so much that I didn't get sleep. It's the fact that it was highly broken sleep. Hours total was more than plenty. But having it so broken up is what messed me up the most. 40 mins here, an hour there, 30 mins the next time, 40 mins, 1 hour. It wasn't enough sleep at one time to feel rested.

The first month was really hard until we kind of hit our stride. I Co-slept with my daughter though. at first in a doc a tot next to me, And then once she had good neck control and I had tired of having to take her in and out of it all night she just slept next to me And then I was sleeping even more. 
But girl don't listen to people telling you that. You will do what you need to do and you may be over tired at first but you will hit your stride with your baby too and you will be okay. People just always got to have negative stuff to say.

Depends on the baby. My first slept through the night since birth. My 18mth old still wakes during the night.

I agree with Katie! Super broken sleep.
Even now with my girl who is close to 11 weeks she will sleep for like 4 hours when we initially go to bed then maybe for 2-3 hours and then maybe a few more till the morning.
It’s so tiring!
Our day time nap process is a hot mess still too 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ she only wants to be rocked to sleep, i put her down and she wakes up just to start the process over again. 
It gets better eventually, it just takes a while.

I honestly can't remember...just that it was broken as the others have said...but the fact that I can't remember means it can't have been too bad lol! You just sort of get through it...and I don't know about you, but that sort of 'helpful' advice annoys me - how can you go & hibernate & stock up on sleep before baby 🙄😄
I've got it coming all over again, plus a toddler who still wakes sometimes so I'll probably be eating my words 🤦🏼‍♀️

With my first, I just had super broken sleep. He woke up every 2 hours to feed. But I still had the daytime free, so I slept when he slept.
With my second I didn't have that luxury anymore, as I had a toddler who needed my attention during the day, so no opportunity for naps. Plus my second was super colicky so I only ended up sleeping 2-3 hours a night for about 2 months before he finally started sleeping through the night.

Don’t worry yourself! I slept a lot actually because newborns sleep a lot have your baby’s milk close by so all you have to do is get up and get it or have milk pumped if your breastfeeding. I slept good with all my kids. Till about 5 months old it takes them longer to sleep and they are awake more often but it depends on baby. 🤍

Honestly there are a lot of factors to consider - do you have other kids, formula/ebm/direct feeding, do you have a partner or family staying, what time do you go to bed, are you pumping, etc.
We have 10w old twins. They came home at 2.5w old. For the first few weeks they'd sleep 3 hour stretches, waking for a feed and then dozing straight back to sleep. If I went to bed at 10 and awoke at 7, I could easily spend 6-7 of those 9 hours asleep. 
I'm pumping though. So two pumps overnight, at 40 minutes each, plus washing parts = 2 hours total, taking my sleep time down to about 4-5 hours.
