ADHD ?

Question

Anyone have a child who is adhd? I just took my son to get tested for it an I have to take him back Friday...the doctor said he is sure he has it but just wants to do a Second screening just to be sure...what are your thoughts on medication because I really don’t want my son on any kind of meds there has to be another way of dealing with it please help I really need advice from a paren￼t/ parents who have to deal with this my son is 5....please no rude comments I just want advice an to know your experience with it thanks 🙏

I have ADHD and my daughter has ADHD. Medicate. 
There is absolutely nothing worse than trying your hardest and not succeeding every single day for the rest of your life. There is no cure for ADHD, meds are the building blocks to a successful adult because they learn and retain the info that they need to know to be a functioning human being. 
ADHD also makes you more prone to having a substance abuse disorder. Unmedicated kids will use drugs to make themselves feel normal regardless of the negative side effects. 
ADHD is 100% genetic, there’s a 50/50 chance if you have it your child will have it and their child will probably have it too. 3/5 of the kids on my moms side have adhd, my mom is dead, my aunt is dead. I lost my mom and aunt to a substance abuse disorder most likely because they had adhd and weren’t medicated. 
Medicating is giving your child the best possible chance at living a good life. 
Not medicating is setting them up for failure and signing their death certificate. I know it’s so harsh but that’s my honest opinion. Unmedicated kids turn into adults with drug problems because there is no cure for this, stimulants help reduce the side effects and let us live somewhat normal lives. 
Join some ADHD support groups on FB, read the ADHD posts on Reddit. There’s a ton of info on there and you might realize how hard living with adhd is and why your child should use meds. I’d recommend Vyvanse if you do medicate. It’s expensive but definitely one of the better drugs out there.

I'm still working on figuring out if my son has it or something else causing his delays. I've thought about this often & I don't think I'll put him on medication. His problems aren't very severe, though. My fiance was on medication for it as a child for a year & he was zoned out the whole time. In the other hand, medication did nothing for my brother. I'm assuming they've gotten better about correct medication since then. But the final part was that he was on allergy medicine every day for 6 months due to constant ear infections. During that time he came to expect & like taking medicine. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but I don't want to normalize taking meds if I have other options due to the huge addiction problems in my family. I would say talk to the doctor about all options to help your son cope and discuss those with your son as well.

ADHD in a child is real and crazy at times. I had it and medication was the only thing that helped me focus and calm down in school to do my work so you might not have much of a choice. But you should also talk to your son about and see how he feels about taking medication and explain what it’s for. I used Ritalin at a young age but even now I have medication for ADHD because it doesn’t go away
