Do you think accountability should be different based on race?

Everyone should be held accountable, but the problem is that many times, white people are not while POC are constantly having to be extra cautious. 
Here’s an example that actually happened. My brothers had black friends. They were all pot smokers. My brothers were constantly let off with warnings, even when caught with marijuana ON THEIR PERSON. Worst case, they went to jail for a couple of hours until my mom came to pick them up. They were over 18. Their black friends would immediately be handcuffed, booked, and held in jail for days or weeks before being released. 
One time, my brother at 21 years old got caught with weed and speeding. They CALLED OUR MOM to come pick him up and he just had to pass a pee test a few weeks later after his court date. Then all charges were dropped. 
That shit doesn’t happen when you’re a person of color and I think THAT is what they mean regarding holding white people accountable. People shouldn’t be treated differently by law enforcement just because of the color of their skin.

The issue is that we shouldn’t have to but systemically we already do. 
Brock turner only served 3 months out of a pathetic 6 month sentence for proven sexual assault meanwhile Elijah McClain is dead all because he “looked suspicious”

No. How is that helpful? How are we supposed to treat each other equally if now punishments and repercussions are going to be different and race based? That comment is so counter productive and unhelpful.

well i can actually tell so far not one single person went to the ig page to try an understand what context she is speaking in. 
firstly, the point she’s talking about isn’t a “black vs white” accountability issue. she was asked by a friend, 
“if you get called out for perpetuating harm against another disenfranchised community, (or one that you are a part of) what should accountability look like?”
and i absolutely do agree that there are difference in what accountability should look like. in a similar wave, accountability for a high profile person who harms a disenfranchised group would be different to accountability for someone relatively unknown. 
if someone who (wasn’t straight) said something that was LGB+ phobic, i would absolutely expect that their accountability and learning process would be different to that of a straight person. there is still a lot of internalised hatred within the community that goes on, and that’s not something that can be said for a straight person making those remarks. the journey to accountability would not be the same. 
i’m white, so i’m not going to comment on the race aspect that the poster originally referenced. 
also, i just think that there’s no “one way” to be held accountable. so i’m not sure why anyone here is arguing “equal standards for all”

I feel like this is lacking context (I didn't see the instagram), but in general no. If you do something wrong, you should be held accountable. 
I can maybe see how accountability differs in certain racial contexts, like, a white person's role in breaking down systemic racial inequalities is different than that of a non-white person. There's a different kind of accountability there.  
Of course, this isn't just specific to racial inequities. There's a different type of accountability with other power differentials.  If someone has the means and ability to do something they should do, and chooses not to, it's different than someone who doesn't have the means or ability to do the same thing. For example, I'm not going to hold a cashier accountable for poor wages the same way I'd hold a business owner accountable.   The cashier doesn't have the means or ability to pay employees better. And it can often seem as if our social conditioning sets us up to do the exact opposite - we tend not to hold those with power accountable and instead blame people for their own condition.

I think if you do something wrong, you get held accountable. If it’s multiple people involved in the wrongdoing they all should face the same consequences, doesn’t matter what skin color you are.

I don’t really understand why someone would think people should be held to different standards based on their race. 
Their profession, their level of authority, yes. But skin color? No. To whom is that helpful?

I think everyone should be treated equal. Now black people are currently held to stricter accountability & I definitely think that should end. If a white kid gets community service for smoking weed, so should a black kid.
