Tenant rights within the pandemic
(Story of someone I actually know)
Immunocompromised woman lives alone in a rental house. During a storm, a tree limb cracks one of her windows. She notifies landlord who says he’ll be over to fix it in 24 hours. When he arrives he is not wearing a mask, and she requests he wear one before entering the home. He refuses, says it’s his property and there’s no longer a legal mandate. She is forced to let him in regardless and hope that he does not get her sick.
—Should tenants have extended rights when it comes to their own personal safety? To what extent? At least during the pandemic, should landlords be required to wear masks in their properties if it’s being occupied? Why or why not?
