How much would you spend on a crib

So this is my first baby, and my husband and I are by far not asking anyone to purchase us items, we plan on starting to buy our big purchase items that way we don’t have to rely on anyone. We have an amazing support system that will help us but; again I am not a person who wants to stress about everything in the end. That being said some of the items we’ve fallen in love with our higher in price. For example our crib we have chosen is 500 but it will turn into a twin and then a full size bed, we also plan on more kids and would reuse it. My mom really wants to gift us the crib and we will gladly appreciate that. That being said though, I feel like a lot of people are judging me on these items, for example a comment was made to me today that I’m being ridiculous and need to find something cheaper. What are your thoughts?
