Statistics vs Media

Over the last few years I have noticed it seems people will read a media head line and just go with it without doing any type of research. This has lead to many different problems in society and people becoming more divided than ever (in my eyes).

So I am curious, how many people actually do research on things they read?

I’m not talking about reading and article or two, I’m talking about breaking down the article looking at the different stats, what laws or procedures affect it, what the common factors are and not just obvious ones, etc?
