Husband is going to see his dad but doesn't want me to go

My husband's step mom had contacted him last week because his dad is really sick with leukemia and doesn't have much time left. She said his dad wants to see him before he dies. My husband's dad was very abusive to him and his mom and then left them both when was 10. So he hasn't seen his father in 14 years. At first he said he wasn't going to go, but now he does want to go, but he doesn't want me to go. I asked why and said I wanted to support him, but said "This is something I need to do on my own". Thing is he said he's gonna go, listen to his dad talk, and then tell him fuck you to his face. Why is that something he needs to do on his own? Also it seems petty to drive 12 hours just to tell his dad fuck you, but I still wanted to be there for support. I'm his wife, I feel like I should be there.
