Working while sick??

My manager came in yesterday and towards the end of my shift mentioned to me he was sick and "definitely has a fever". This really pissed me off!!! I work in a weight loss facility where we are constantly working up close and personal with out members. I don't think he should be working if he's sick with a fever! He's putting the members and staff at risk to catch whatever he has. It particularly aggrivated me because I am 28 weeks pregnant & am vulnerable to getting sick anyways! We don't have a certain amount of "sick days" because we all work closely with the owners and they are very understanding when it comes to our health, so sick days aren't an issue. What do you think?? Is it okay to come in to work sick???

Lots of people don't have the luxury of not going to work. Either they aren't allowed sick/personal time, or they need the money and the time they get is unpaid time off. Sometimes the only way to avoid getting written up is to just go to work sick (even though you know it's wrong), so the boss can witness it and know you aren't lying, and they can be the ones to send you home. The US is pretty awful when it comes to employment.

It's how we are taught to do here in the states. You  work till you can't and to some people working when you're sick just feels like you're working that much harder. And sick days may not be a big deal to get but I'm sure you don't get paid on them...

Sometimes managers are stuck between a rock and a hard place. When I was in management I didn't have the option to not go to work. There was days when I would have loved to stay home and rest but there's always pressure on managers to show up.

I used to be an elementary school teacher. I would be furious when a teacher came to school coughing, sniffling, with a fever. I was ancillary so I saw all kids. It's bad enough when parents sent their kids to school when they were obviously sick. No need for a teacher who interacts with so many kids in a day to come to school sick. It's selfish because it's putting everyone else at risk so that that person doesn't fall behind, lose sick days, etc.

I worked with the elderly, and was literally shaking and had it coming out of both ends. And at one time, I had a man in a lift to get him to bed and had to throw up. You are not supposed to leave them alone while in a lift. I told the nurse this, and she tried to give me meds off of the med cart (which is illegal) I didn't take any, and they wouldn't let me leave. Finally, after realizing it could be deadly to the people on the nursing home, I told them to write me up if they wanted to, but I was going to go home. (Mind you, this was also night shift and everyone was asleep and changed) the nurse wrote me up.

I ended up quitting this job, because they also had tried to work me the whole week I requested off for my wedding and said they'd have to fire me if I couldn't work at least four of the nights they put me down for. Anyways, point is: LET PEOPLE GO HOME IF THEY ARE FUCKING SICK.

Even a simple fever, you are allowed to leave by law. (At least at the jobs I've worked)

I worked at a movie store for years and people always came in to rent a bunch movies while they were sick. Then they would take them home, to their germ filled house and after a few days they would bring them all back. I would get sick at least once a month! It was so frustrating!

Go to work and make your money. Take the proper precautions of course, wash your hands, don't be all in people's faces but make your money. If you're puking everywhere then stay home But if you just have a fever then go.
