How long after c-section is it safe to have a baby?

I’ve heard how it can be life threatening to be pregnant too soon after a c-section. 
I’ve also heard that, should I become pregnant again, especially too soon, the doctors would recommend a c-section? 
Nb: not pregnant nor ttc, just curious.

My doctor said minimum 12 months of healing, preferably 18 months and best case is 2+ years

Regardless of how you deliver it is advised to wait 12-18 months between pregnancies. But obviously if it happens it happens. A prior C section can make things more complicated though. If your aiming for a VBAC most doctors require 18 months between.

I am pregnant and 29 weeks. I got pregnant when my son was 5 months. Zero issues. Just a scheduled call again.

My doctor recommends waiting 18 months before getting pregnant again. I got pregnant 9 months after my first c-section and 1 year after my second c-section. My pregnancies were fine and uncomplicated but my uterus is damaged from having 3 babies within 3.5 years and mainly from having 3 c-sections. If I had waited longer to get other between them my uterus may not be in such rough shape

I got pregnant 17m pp and went into labor at 38w, my doctors still told me there was a big risk in me rupturing. I ended up getting another c-section with that being one of the reasons.
