Has anyone named their baby something their ethnic parents can’t pronounce?

Im a Latina who is 20 yrs old and 38 weeks pregnant. I haven’t chosen a name for my son because everything I love my grandparents would have a very hard time pronouncing. My mom is 100% fluent in English with no accent she was raised in the u.s but my my grandpa is fluent in English too but he has an accent and trouble pronouncing things, my grandmother is less fluent so she has more trouble. I don’t care that they don’t speak English 100% perfectly because I speak fluent Spanish and I’ll be teaching my son the same so he can be proud of his roots. But I really don’t want a traditional name in Spanish.. I’m just not drawn to them personally. My entire family pressures me to let them choose the name for me but it’s my child I don’t want to regret naming him something I don’t truly love.. Would you name your child a name you love even if some of your family wouldn’t be able to pronounce it?! It’s so hard to decide on choosing something everyone loves but I hate or choosing a name I do love but everyone else hates :/

I think it’s important that you pick the name you love. Grandparents end up giving the child a nickname anyways lol my son’s name is Carter & his Spanish side of the family can’t pronounce it at all so they all call him Carlo which I’m 100% okay with ❤️ regardless of his name they absolutely adore him & I love that he has a name we are happy with.

Yeah I had this problem but I really liked the name so I just gave them a nickname they can call my son that they can pronounce. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is your baby. Name him what you want. Chances are (unless you don’t approve) he will have a nickname anyway. My oldest daughter’s name is Avea (uh-vay-uh). My grandmother is Japanese and can’t pronounce it. She calls my daughter Uh-bee-uh. It’s not a big deal to me or my daughter. My name is Rhiannon (re-ann-non) and my grandma has called me Deanna my whole life 😂😂. My middle daughter has a Japanese name and that thrilled my grandma because she can say it and spell it without help lol. I’m still considering names for my third baby and am not worried about anyone’s opinion.

Ultimately do what you want, but as a Latina woman is was very important to me to name my children names that were able to be said in both Spanish and English. My girls are Ana Sofia and Cecilia. For boys we considered Rafael, Mateo, Gabriel, and Javier. Some are easier than others to say in English but none are too hard imo. It just wouldn’t have been my style to name my kid a name that couldn’t easily be said at all in Spanish. But, again, ultimately it’s your decision.

My daughter name is Cairo my husband is Kenyan and even though it’s a African city some family members still have trouble with it. I agree with pretty much everybody else. Name your child whatever you like they will more than likely find a nickname to call them.
