Why do people cheat?

Why do people cheat? What is the purpose? Why not just be single instead of cheating?

Loaded question and a personal issue.

1) Some people aren't monogamous but are afraid to admit that in a currently mostly monogamous society. There are women with the same values, but they don't know to search them out. There is some super interesting research on evolution and monogamy that I'd recommend finding

2) Self esteem issues. My ex valued his self worth by the number of women who would sleep with him. Sad, but true. This had zero to do with me. He did and still does need major therapy for this one.

3) Sex and power go hand in hand. Some people feel like Gods to get away with it. This can also go with #2

4) I hate this one - dissatisfied with their home sex lives and too chicken shit to say something or fix it. Or worse, they do say something, but their spouse doesn't take it seriously. Wrong? Super yes! It's a "want my cake and eat it too" scenario. They don't want to break up their family, but they want their needs met.

5) Because they are an asshole

7) Act on impulse without thinking of the consequences

8) Don't respect their spouses intelligence enough and simply think they won't get caught. Why does a dog lick his ass?

Geez there have to be a thousand reasons!

Simple. People want what they can't have. 
And if they find out they can have it, then they will go for it.
