4 year old suddenly scared of his room?

He's always had a hard time sleeping on his own. He slept next to me the first 7 months and we tried to transition him to his own room and its never gone well. Bedtime is alwaysss a nightmare. Lately it's become worse. He flat out refuses to go to bed in his room. He'll sit in his room and scream bloody murder until we relent and let him come to our bed or flat out come in here on his own. I miss having my own space in bed with all 3 of us here.... sometimes when he says no to going to bed he says he's too scared. We used to brush it off bc anytime he didn't want to do something he claimed he was scared. (Don't want to put on shoes bc "I'm scared" ect) now he's stopped using that every time except when it comes to bedtime. He has a nightlight and his window faces the street lights but when I open the curtain he wants me to shut it. Yet he keeps pointing at it saying scared. The last few nights it's been "monster" too.

Sorry this is rambling but I'm just at a loss what to do. He stays up past 10 every night, won't sleep in his room, and even in our room tries to play while we're trying to sleep.... Momma is getting cranky too 😩
