Always a Caretaker Never a Mom
My cousin moved in with my husband and I when she was 15 along with her barely a year old daughter, we helped her with the baby and helped her finish Highschool all that, and she still calls on us daily as if we birthed her, but we didn't ☹. After she moved out a newly 18 year old nephew scared of becoming an adult moved in with us, we helped him navigate for a while. This weekend at a wedding my 2 year old great niece wouldn't let her mom change her clothes but she let me. Always the savior never the actual mom, when will it be my turn? While the greatest accomplishment of my life to this point is helping my cousin finish school and take care of her baby and letting the nephew move in to soften the reality of adulthood and I would do all of that again in a heartbeat no questions asked, I still have to wonder when will I get to actually be a mom.
