How much do you charge for babysitting? Or how much do you give your sitters?

I’m going to be babysitting two preschoolers m-f 20-30min away from me. I have a rate in mind but just out of curiosity how do you go about charging?

I wouldn’t pay any less than minimum wage! Possibly more if my child was fussy or difficult.

Look at your local area.  a child center usually costs about $50 to $100 a hour per kid. I usually do the hundred dollar hour per child . I would write down everything I had to do when watching the kid. Put down the hour I walked in the door and the hour I'd walk out the door . the minute I step foot in that house my time starts. Also make them pay me my money beforehand so before they leave they have to give me my full amount of money of the 8 hours I'm there. Add extra charges the things that I did that I wasn't supposed to do. One person that refused to pay me  I walked out the door . did not babysit that day and they called to ask me to redo it I said if I'm coming to do it again the charge is twice $200 plus the extra fees. I told them i will not babysit unless I have full amount of cash in my hand.they actually gave me full amount plus interest. I usually made about in one day eight hour shift $900. The child was under the age of five I was making about a thousand. I do my prices like that because these people are paying me to watch their kids and waste my time watching their kids cuz I could be doing something else.

I get paid $50 for 8 hrs for three children. I am very experienced, was the oldest of seven children, I like to help other busy Mother’s out! It is a blessing to them😀

I pay 100.00 a day for 8 hours of work for a 3 year old. Keep in mind, my nieces babysit who are still in high school. I’d pay more for an experienced nanny. We used to pay 20.00 and hour to our nanny but didn’t need her once Covid hit.

Are you babysitting or full time nanny? 
We pay our date night sitter 12 for waking hours and 10 if kids are asleep. If there is dinner and bath involved we arbitrarily add a little bit more. 
Full time nanny I would be willing to pay 15-20 an hour for the right person.

I would never babysit for any less than $15 an hour personally. More for more than one child, if I’m expected to drive them, it I have to provide food myself, etc. If I didn’t have a childhood related degree and wasnt CPR certified, probably starting at $13

The going rate in your area is important but it also matters what your experience level and training are. I’ve worked 6 years professionally with children and my base rate is $15 an hour but I usually charge closer to $20 because I have the background and experience to not just watch kids play but also teach them and do light housework.
