Dilation??

Currently 36+4. Is it normal to not be checked for dilation whatsoever? I have an appointment tomorrow so maybe my ob will but, just a thought.

It's not medically necessary and isn't a great predictor of when labor will start so some doctors won't check.

Mine checked last week for the first time and I was 35 weeks last week. 1 cm dialated. Today @ 36 weeks+1 day I went and she checked me again I’m still 1cm but cervix is soft.

Mine checked me at 34 weeks and told me I was 1cm dilated. She did mentioned when she was measuring my belly that the baby dropped.

Mine was only checked today at my 34 week appointment because I’ve been experiencing cramping and crazy Braxton Hicks. But most don’t start checking until closer to delivery unless you have a history of delivering early or other medical complications.

I think it’s common to wait until the last few weeks (37+), cause while it tells someee things, some people stay dilated for weeks, others dilate rapidly at onset of labor. That being said, it helps them judge what station the baby is at and your effacement too.

Usually starting at 36 or 37 weeks they check unless there have been issues prior. I’m 35 weeks and won’t be checked till 36 weeks. Usually once you swap to weekly appointments. This is my fourth baby and was never checked before 36. When I asked before they just simply said because I had had a healthy pregnancy and they had no cause to check before.

Just an update: 
My ob asked at my appointment if I wanted to be checked and I just told her only if she felt it was needed. She said no just due to the fact that I haven’t had any contractions, bleeding, etc. That and baby hasn’t dropped at all and I’m not planning to be induced. I may let her check next week though, just in case.
